Henry VIII & Hollywood's Unfair Advantage

As it turns out, The Tudors is not the most accurate show on television these days. Sure, I haven't been watching this season (only because I only get basic cable), but until now, I was under the impression that he was a burly, sexy, violent king with whims and desires. I also thought he was easily swayed. However, apparently, he was not so burly and sexy, and definitely not as "Jonathan Rhys-Meyers" -like as I had hoped. There go my historical fantasies... And the same goes for Philippa Gregory's "The Other Boleyn Girl". I thought that was a great book!! Yet so not true...

And while we are on the topic of crushed imaginations...

As I sit in my Introduction to Christianity class, listening to the other students discuss old English wordings of Puritanical ordinance, I cannot help but think how the media forces our minds into these corners--forcing us to imagine what someone looks like or acts like without using our own imaginations. For example, the new Twilight movie is coming out soon. Yet as I watched the trailor, I became angry and annoyed because none of the characters look like I imagined in my head. Bella is too pretty and not awkward enough. Edward is too human. And Forks is just too blue and bleak! So why would I go to see this movie if I know it will ruin the way I see the book in my mind? Well, for now I won't. I refuse. But as I near the end of the third book, I am getting more anxious to see the book brought to life... Damn Hollywood and its luring posters!

On the bright side, there are no classes tomorrow! So hopefully I will get good work done... We'll see.
